Shifting Forms
A timeline is a display of a list of events in chronological order.
My recent artwork represents travel, real and symbolic, along our timeline or “lifeline”. It exhibits the awareness that we are presented with tangents and obstacles during our lives. We discover ways to maneuver and overcome them.
During the past few years I have been collaborating on a dance project with a group of mature professional and semi-professional dancers determined to disrupt ageism in dance. Through conversations, choreography, rehearsals and performances, we found that as we aged there were profound social and practical changes in our lives outside of our dance connection that were influenced by relationships, outstanding and unsettling events, location change, illnesses and deaths, etc. Also, we recognized that we cherished particular moments and events in our lives.
I initiated a visual art project, Shifting Forms, about the challenges that, for whatever reason we did not fully predict, were profoundly changing our lives. This artwork represents a visual interpretation of life’s barriers and opportunities.
