Comfort Clothing
Images and metaphors of memories are manifest in contemporary art. It interests me how artists establish and define their past in their art. I believe that artists continuously and consistently create artwork that is entwined with memory recollection; that artists frequently evaluate and re-evaluate their emotions by revisiting memories while they create their art. Thus the art making process and the subsequent emotional activity remain a conundrum.
I am also fascinated that clothing generally has socio-economical and emotional references - a reflection of time and place. Clothing choices are imbued with emotional attachments and responses that can be of personal significance to the wearer and to others. A clothing motif is the perfect subject matter. The Comfort Clothing series consists of approximately 20 colourful mixed media works using clothing as subject while drawing on the premise that memories recalled while creating art become inherent to the art piece.
